Or Yehuda is a city in central Israel close to Tel Aviv. The city itself was founded in only 1949, but humans have lived at the location since biblical times. One notable former resident of the city is Boaz Tsaban who, after participating in a new math program for high school students, went on to demonstrate the importance of such programs by becoming a college professor in mathematics. The city had a population of 36,164 as of 2015.

The Ethiopian-Israeli community has tremendous potential, but needs a helping hand to help it in its transition from an agrarian life to Israel’s fast-paced modern technological society. Even Israeli-born children of Ethiopian Jewish immigrants face tremendous challenges, different to those of their immigrant peers, but in some ways, even greater.
