Domestic Violence Prevention
Opportunities for Assistance:
Preventing Domestic Violence
By working together, the Ethiopian-Israeli community can bring an end to domestic violence.
The Ethiopian-Israeli community is fraught with hardship. Cultural differences, high rates of unemployment, and social isolation are just some of the many hurdles that contribute to the high rates of domestic violence within the Ethiopian-Israeli community.
ENP believes that the best way to put an end to this violence is to bring together all parts of the community, from the young to the old, to the kessim (Beta Yisrael religious elders) and shmagale (traditional mediators). Accordingly, ENP has launched a program that combats domestic violence from the ground up. The program furnishes communities with social workers, traditional mediators, men's groups, citywide round tables, and prevention workshops, whose participants work to promote change for the better, and change for good.
