ENP Adopts "On Line" Learning During the Coronavirus Crisis

March 15, 2020

The Ethiopian National Project (ENP) is pleased to announce that it has received special, formal permission from the Government of Israel to continue its critical programs on a remote basis, for the period of time that is needed, during the Coronavirus crisis.

With Israel’s schools closed, extra-curricular activities discontinued and one quarter of the State of Israel’s work force unemployed, ENP’s programs provide essential services to the 4,000 plus families it serves.

ENP’s critical work includes:

  • School Performance and Community Empowerment (SPACE) offers- now on-line-  small group instruction in core subjects including math, English and Hebrew, and other subjects. Special attention will be given to those eleventh and twelfth graders who will be required to take their high school completion exams from the month of June, placing emphasis on assisting these upperclassmen succeed on their tests despite the major disruption they and all of Israel are experiencing.
  • ENP’s community coordinators will make virtual “home visits” daily, helping participant children address challenges they are experiencing, while working in full coordination with municipal partners to ensure that any and all familial needs that require supplemental support are being addressed.
  • ENP is mapping each and every participant family to help ensure they have the required resources and knowledge to enable children to actively participate in on-line learning, both ENP’s small groups study sessions and their regular course of study. If and where possible, ENP seeks to arrange the donation of laptop computers to families in need.
  • Participants in ENP’s spoken English program “Bridges” will team up with North American peers in virtual chat rooms so they have an opportunity to make new friends while practicing their spoken English skills.
  • The extraordinary Ti’ud: Imparting the Story of the Ethiopian Aliyah to Future Generations program will continue: participants are collecting and documenting the heroic stories of family and community members with the direction and oversight of exceptional staff.

At a time when all of Israel is behind closed doors, ENP will continue to open doors for the Ethiopian-Israeli community through its life-changing programs.
