Good Deeds Day in Beit Shemesh

March 18, 2013

More than 300 Ethiopian-Israeli students from the ENP Scholastic Assistance Program picked up some painting brushes and gave out a helping hand by painting residential buildings, and participated in other community service work as part of Good Deeds Day.

Good Deeds Day takes place annually in different communities, and is an important educational message for the students, while providing them with the opportunity to contribute back to their community. Orly, a 16 year old student that took part in Good Deeds Day, stated that “[I]t is amazing that I get this opportunity to paint the entry of my own building, and to put a smile on my neighbors’ faces, and also set a good example for my younger sister.”

The students came from the city of Beit Shemesh, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Lod, Be'er Sheva, and Hadera. Besides painting residential buildings on streets that are highly populated by Ethiopian-Israeli families, the students painted a mural at the local library, planted plants at retirement homes, and rolled up their sleeves for some good old farm work in the Ethiopian village in Beit Shemesh called “Tasfa” (hope).

This day ended with an exciting ceremony at the Branco Weiss School in Beit Shemesh, attended by the Mayor, Mr. Moshe Abutbul, and included performances by students.

Students from the ENP programs participated in Good Deeds Day in other communities across the country, that was hosted by Bank of Poalim.

ENP hopes that the Ethiopian-Israeli students can set a good example for the rest of the kids in their community, and for the general population.
