Introducing ENP's New International Relations Associate

May 21, 2020

ENP is proud to welcome Yael Salem into the International Relations Department as the latest addition to the ENP family! Starting work at the height of the COVID-19 crisis in April, Yael quickly delved into the intricate work of ENP’s International Relations division. A newcomer to the world of resource development, Yael brings a wealth of professional experience in the fields of diplomacy and journalism, having previously served as a media analyst at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv and head of the English desk at one of Israel's leading news websites. As an undergraduate student she worked at the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute in Jerusalem -- ENP's evaluation provider.  Yael has a BA in international relations and history from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and two MA degrees in diplomacy studies and history from the Tel Aviv University. "I'm so honored to be part of the truly transformative work that ENP is doing, and am constantly amazed at the impact our programs have on the lives of so many Israeli-Ethiopian youth," she says.

While Yael is now doing a deep dive to develop expertise on the Ethiopian Jewish and Ethiopian-Israeli community, she can already boast a close family connection to Ethiopia: "My mother, hailing from the Jewish community of Aden, was born in Asmara, Eritrea – a place she holds dear in her heart and from which she has the warmest memories. Some of our relatives even settled in Addis Ababa for a time, building successful businesses there. Working at ENP has inspired me to re-explore that part of our family's history and to learn more about the traditions of the Jewish communities in those countries."
