Samuel and Gila's Stories

Community
The twelfth-grader Samuel* participated in an ad hoc capacity in Center activities for years, but never played an active role in any leadership capacity nor joined any activities that required a regular commitment. This year, for the first time, Samuel has begun to lead “The Coop”, a communal store, which is run by six Center participants. “He has finally found something he identifies with, and enjoys,” explains Asher, the coordinator. “That is the advantage of having such varied activities at our Center—we inevitably find something that is perfect for someone!”

Gila* has found her place at the Center. She enjoys performing at every opportunity, and does so for community events in which the Youth Center plays a part. She even entered a singing contest in which she placed second. As a result of her success in the competition, Gila has been invited to perform at a number of performances—and paid!  But even with her newfound fame, Gila continues her active participation at the Center, with her new formal role: Chair responsible for the influx of new Center members!

ENP looks forward to continued successful activities of the Center over the coming months, and thanks you for all you do to help make a difference. ENP hopes to have the opportunity to host Vancouver community members on a visit one day so as to see this critical work.
