Yosef's Story

Youth in School
City: Be'er Sheva
Yosef and his family came to Israel about six years ago from a small village in Gondar, Ethiopia, but it is hard to believe after meeting him as he has excellent Hebrew and seems as though he has easily integrated into the school system and Israeli society. It was his family's dream to come to Israel and upon his arrival, Yosef learned at an ulpan for a year and a half before entering the formal school system. He is the youngest of four brothers and has been in ENP's SPACE program since he was in 7th grade. Since his parents do not speak Hebrew, Yosef can't get help with his studies at home. He likes that SPACE helps him with homework and when he has upcoming exams, especially in English. SPACE has given Yosef the assistance he needed to raise his grades and move up to higher level classes. Today he is in the highest tracking level for math and is moving into the highest tracking level in English in the coming school year. Yosef feels that SPACE goes beyond just providing assistance with studies but gives students the confidence and tools to succeed in life. Yosef loves sports, especially basketball. He hopes to attend university to study science and technology, but his dream is to one day be the prime minister.
