Asya's Story

Youth in School
City: Petach Tikva

"I feel much less insecure in school now that I am a part of SPACE."

Asya was three years old when she made aliyah with her family. Her father passed away in Ethiopia and her mother remarried in Israel. She is the second oldest of five siblings. Asya began participating in ENP’s SPACE program in 7th grade and although her grades were good, she was in the lowest level classes. With the help of SPACE, she was able to move up to the higher level classes and today, she is in the 4-points math class and 5-points English class. Asya recognizes how important SPACE is, as in her regular math class there are 40 students and it is often difficult to hear what the teacher says, so she is afraid to ask if she needs further explanation. In SPACE, she is able to study in small groups, can understand more, and is less insecure about asking questions. Asya loves to learn new languages; she can speak Korean and English fairly fluently and now wants to learn Chinese. Asya’s dream is to study at university and to eventually open her own company.
