Eyal: Reaching to Achieve His Dreams

Youth in School
City: Beit Shemesh

Eyal (name has been changed to protect his privacy), a bright 18 year old, sometimes skipped school, and often refused to participate in class or other school activities. The coordinator of the SPACE Program in Beit Shemesh approached one of his teachers to discuss Eyal’s absence. The teacher explained that Eyal had good grades last year, but this year Eyal told him that he felt run down and that he doesn’t have the strength and energy to invest in his studies or himself.

The program coordinator went to Eyal’s neighborhood to talk with him.  Eyal explained that his parents did not appreciate his school successes, and were not attuned to his needs or what he has to say.

The coordinator and Eyal continued to meet from time to time and discuss his dreams and aspirations. Eyal expressed a deep desire to invest in his studies, to obtain a university degree, to get recruited into an elite unit in the army, and to work in the high-tech sector. Through the ongoing motivating conversations with the coordinator, Eyal realized that in order to succeed he would have to invest in his studies. Eyal started attending class on a daily basis.

The coordinator firmly believes that through SPACE's guidance, Eyal will succeed and reach his highest ambitions.
