Ohad's Story

Youth in School
City: Ashdod

“I learned that succeeding in school and continuing to university is not out of my reach. I was already thinking about going to university, but SPACE helped reinforce that.”

Ohad is a motivated 18-year-old who has been in SPACE since he was in 9th grade. His parents met in Israel after making Aliyah through Operation Moses in 1984. His parents struggled upon their initial arrival to Israel because it was difficult to find work and assimilate while not speaking Hebrew. His father is now a guard and his mother is a caregiver. Ohad has a younger brother in 10th grade who is also in SPACE. The SPACE program has helped Ohad improve his grades and realize that he can achieve anything. A field trip to Tel Aviv University solidified to Ohad that he could achieve his dreams when he met other Ethiopian-Israeli students succeeding at university. In the future, Ohad hopes to be in a combat unit in the army to carry on the legacy of his father, who was in the Givati Brigade. After his time in the army, Ohad plans to attend university to study economics.
