Truworke & Avichai's Story

Youth in School
City: Ashdod

“It was very important for me for my son to be in the program. SPACE helps them and I believe in the program. I come to all of the parent meetings through the program. I want Avichai to succeed and reach everything that he desires.”

Truworke made Aliyah in 1998 from a small village in Gondar, Ethiopia. She did not attend school in her childhood and does not know how to read or write Hebrew, so she is very grateful for the assistance the SPACE program can provide to her children since she cannot. She “came here with nothing” and wants her children to fulfill their dreams since they have opportunities she personally didn’t grow up with. She is very confident in the program’s abilities and attends every parent meeting. Truworke appreciates that SPACE helps Avichai with his studies and keeps him on track-the program has motivated him to do his homework as soon as he comes home. Avichai is a 13-year-old who participates in his school’s special science and technology program. This is his second year in SPACE but his first year in the special school program. The program is very challenging but Avichai knows he has SPACE to depend on for help. He had to complete many additional assignments in order to be a part of the program but was determined to join because he is so passionate about technology, and SPACE encouraged him to pursue this passion. Avichai especially likes going on field trips to Luna Park because he can have fun with his friends. He dreams of being a soccer player and wants to study technology at university. Avichai’s teachers not only help him with his academics but also teach him how to be responsible and prepared for class each day. Truworke is very proud of the success of her children and hopes they all can achieve their goals.
