Nicol's Story

Youth in School
City: Ashkelon

After participating in SPACE, Nicol (right) has embodied a new sense of confidence and optimism about what the future holds.

After arriving to Israel alone at the age of thirteen, Nicol's mother established a life in a new country. Nicol is the youngest of four siblings; all Israeli-born citizens. She enjoys having older siblings and refers to herself as the cutest among them.

A typical day in the life of Nicol includes spending time with friends, playing outside and talking on the phone. In her academics, Nicol has found deep meaning in the development of her learning. Although she has not always been the best student, she admits that the specialized attention that she receives through SPACE has accelerated her growth in ways she thought were unimaginable. She feels that the lessons paired with the small class size are most beneficial and she has already experienced tremendous change in her understanding of class material.

Nicol and her siblings enjoy discussing what they learn with each other. Nicol's mother also plays a critical role in helping her with studies at home if needed. She likes having peers by her side for encouragement and a helping hand. After participating in SPACE, Nicol has embodied a new sense of confidence and optimism about what the future holds. She wishes to continue her studies beyond high school, but has not yet found a particular area of study. Regardless, she is excited for the next chapter of her life.
